Our Story: Preserving Clermont’s Legacy for Future Generations
In the early 2000s local families and leaders recognized the value of remembering where Clermont came from — and preserving that history for those yet to come. From those humble beginnings, the Clermont Historical Society emerged as a guardian of our community’s rich heritage.
Over time, we have committed ourselves to a diverse array of events and projects. We have restored and maintained an historic post office and other structures in Clermont in junction with the City of Clermont, collected and conserved archival materials, rescued deteriorating photographs and manuscripts, and recorded oral histories from long-time residents. Our collections include maps, family records, vintage photographs, architectural plans, and more — each artifact a window into Clermont’s past.
But preservation is only part of the mission. We actively share our resources with schools, researchers, and the wider community —through exhibits, educational programs, and community events. Our goal is that every restored building, every digitized record, every public display helps people connect with Clermont’s story in meaningful ways.
We believe heritage belongs to everyone — not tucked away in a vault nor should it be forgotten. By bridging Clermont’s past with its present, the Clermont Historical Society works to ensure that future generations can walk through our town and see, touch, and understand the stories that shaped it.
Join us in celebrating, preserving, and interpreting the legacy of Clermont — one project, one event, one story at a time.
