Each year, the Clermont Historical Society proudly presents Cheever — a stirring dramatic portrayal by playwright Emory Jones that brings to life a single, poignant day in the life of legendary North Georgia folk potter Cheever Meaders (1885-1967). Set in his pottery shop in 1967, just two weeks before his passing, the play imagines a meeting between Meaders, his wife Arie, and the pottery scholar Dr. John Burrison — a conversation rooted in the stories passed down through generations.

By staging “Cheever,” the Society honors the region’s rich artistic heritage and invites audiences to connect with the crafts, culture, and characters that shaped North Georgia. This annual event blends history, folklore, and performance to illuminate the legacy of handmade pottery and the people behind it.
