The Dip Post Office:

A Small Building with a Big Story

Long before Clermont had its present name, the community was once known as Dip — a moniker that hints at its modest beginnings. The Dip Post Office, now preserved and located within Clermont City park, stands as a tangible link to that era.

Though small in scale, the post office once served as a vital hub of communication, connecting local residents to the outside world. In rural areas of Georgia in the 19th and early 20th centuries, such post offices were often the lifelines for news, goods, and correspondence. The building’s survival (and recent repair) helps preserve not only the physical structure, but the memory of how essential these local facilities were to daily life.

Today, the restored Dip Post Office sits in Clermont’s city park, offering visitors a quiet, evocative reminder of an earlier chapter in the town’s development.

Postal Code 30527

Located today at 430 Main Street, the Clermont Post Office proudly bears the name Zack T. Addington Post Office Building in honor of Corporal Zack Taylor Addington, a native son who gave his life while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam.

This dedication preserves his memory within the heart of his hometown and stands as a lasting tribute to his sacrifice — and to all who have served their country with courage and devotion.
